Below is a list of events coming up at Paradise Creek Nature Park!

We are located at 1141 Victory Boulevard in Portsmouth, Virginia.


Volunteer Opportunities

Paradise Creek Nature Park offers a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Over 2,000 adults and children have helped remove invasive plants, planted native trees, weeded garden beds, removed trash from the trails and wetland, and helped maintain education zones throughout the park.

Safety Protocols for Public Programs Events.

In order to ensure the safety of staff and guests these guidelines will be followed at all times:

  • Guests should wear appropriate face cover at all times.
  • Guests should follow social distancing guidelines of 6-10 ft. separation at all times.
  • Guests must use porta potties, no access will be given to the River Academy.
  • Pre-registration ONLY, no registration will be done on the day of the program.
  • There will be no indoor classroom portion of programs.
  • There will be no refreshments provided, please bring a water bottle for personal use.
  • The maximum number of guests is 8, no exceptions.

 


Family Nature Walks

Dates: April 17, May 15, June 19

Time: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Age: All ages

Cost: FREE REGISTRATION REQUIRED Register online HERE or at paradisecreek.elizabethriver.org.

Discover the wonders of Paradise Creek! Take a walk through the park with Ranger Seana to learn about our birds and look for signs of wildlife. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.

 

  • Guests should wear a face mask at all times and will be required to verify they are in good health and not experiencing any Covid symptoms.
  • Staff and Participants should practice social distancing during this and all programs.
  • Maximum 8 guests, pre-registration only. 
  • Guests should bring a facemask, sunscreen and a bottle of water.

 


Meet the Critters

Date: May 8 and June 12

Time:12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. 

Age: all ages, children accompained by adults

Cost: FREE -  REGISTRATION REQUIRED - Register online HERE or at paradisecreek.elizabethriver.org.

Join Ranger Seana, as we get close and personal with our marsh critters. Participants with be able to touch, feel and observe periwinkles, fiddler crabs, fish and other critters.

  • Maximum 8 guests, pre-registration only.

Spring Bird Walk

Date: April 17, May 15 and June 19

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Age: 16 and Above

Cost: $5 -  REGISTRATION REQUIRED - Register online HERE or at paradisecreek.elizabethriver.org.

Join our Master Birder and observe some of the many birds that stop at our park. More than 160 species of Birds have been identified at Paradise Creek Nature Park.

  • Staff and Participants should practice social distancing during this and all programs.
  • Maximum 8 guests, pre-registration only.
  • Guests should bring a facemask, hat, work gloves, sunscreen and bottle of water.

 


Herb Collection

Date: May 22

Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Age: all ages, children accompanied by adults 

Cost: FREE -  REGISTRATION REQUIRED - Register online HERE or at paradisecreek.elizabethriver.org.

Join Yolima Carr, Conservation Landscape Curator, to learn about foraging herbs, their medicinal properties and their meanings. Everybody will make and leave with their own herbal bouquet!

Guided Kayak Tours

Date: May 29 

Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Date: June 26 

Time: 12:00 p.m.- 2:00 p.m. 

Age: 12 and above. Ages 12-16 accompained by adults in kayak. 

Cost: $30.00 per person for ERP Members, $40.00 per person for Non ERP Members -  REGISTRATION REQUIRED - Register online HERE or at paradisecreek.elizabethriver.org.

Paddle the largest restoreed wetland in Virginia that's open for public recreation!

Seed Starting Workshop 

Dates: April 10 and 24 

Time: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Age: 16 and above 

Cost: FREE -  REGISTRATION REQUIRED - Register online HERE or at paradisecreek.elizabethriver.org.

Join the Portsmouth Master Gardeners to discuss the cultural conditions necessary for starting new plants from seeds. Hands on experience and seeds provided to take home!

Bring your bucket and gloves and come pick blackberries at Paradise Creek!
