Please read and agree to the statement below to complete your volunteer sign-up.

1. Event Participants and Volunteers acknowledge that their participation in events and activities conducted by the Elizabeth River Project (ERP) is subject to the Terms and Conditions on the reverse side of this sign-in form, including the provisions for release and waiver of claims against ERP, The City of Portsmouth, and Elizabeth River Conservation Area-1.

2. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult 18 years of age or older.


  1. Paradise Creek Nature Park is owned by the City of Portsmouth. Programs at the Park are conducted by The Elizabeth River Project (ERP). ERP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
  2. Volunteers and Event Participants agree to comply with the following conditions of participation in events at Paradise Creek:
    1. All event participants and volunteers must check-in with the Park Manager or event supervisor upon arrival at the Park.
    2. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an parent, guardian or responsible adult 18 years of age or older. Such parent, guardian or adult is responsible for the behavior of accompanying child(ren). Climbing on railings, trees, standing on benches; running or horseplay; and use of profanity are not permitted. Any participants who refuse or fail to follow these rules and policies will be asked to leave and if the person asked to leave is a minor, a chaperone or escort will be required to accompany the departing child. Other safety rules will be explained during program introductions.
    3. The following are prohibited at ERP functions and events: weapons, drugs, alcohol, smoking, or any items with open flame.
    4. Events and programs may be cancelled and participants will be required to leave the Park during inclement weather, thunder, lightning, high winds or any circumstance deemed hazardous by ERP.
    5. Appropriate dress is required during field trips. Sponsors must ensure that tour participants wear clothing appropriate to the weather, including coats and raincoats if rain is expected. Closed toe shoes are recommended for all participants. Sandals, flip-flops, and high heel shoes are not allowed for the safety of participants.
    6. ERP is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal items brought with participants.
  3. Release and Waiver of Claims. Volunteers and event participants, on their behalf and on behalf of any accompanying children, agree to release, waive all claims, discharge, and covenant not to sue Elizabeth River Project, The City of Portsmouth, Elizabeth River Conservation Area 1 LLC (ERCA-1), and their respective officers, directors, employees, volunteers, and agents from liability from any and all claims resulting in personal injury, accidents or illnesses and property loss arising from, but not limited to, participation in the field trip/event, due to the negligence of participants, volunteers, members of the public and other persons.
  4. Notice of Injury or Loss: Event participants and volunteers agree to provide immediate notice to ERP of any injury, damage to, or loss of their personal property while at the Park.
