This year despite unique challenges, 22 schools and over 1,000 students from Norfolk, Portsmouth and Chesapeake worked on 14 different projects to address flooding, polluted runoff, reducing carbon footprint and spreading a message of resilience and hope. Each project won a special superlative award with Camelot Elementary School in Chesapeake winning an “Above and Beyond” award for their comprehensive work installing raised garden beds with native plants, planting trees, installing rain barrels and providing reusable water bottles to students in addition to creating a long term maintenance plan for their school gardens!
