The Elizabeth River Project is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our finance team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this full-time position offers a flexible schedule and the opportunity to contribute to our mission of environmental restoration.
Key Responsibilities:
· Prepare financial reports, including account reconciliations, monthly statements, and regulatory filings (IRS Form 990, W-2, 1099).
· Oversee accounts payable, ensuring accurate processing and timely, budget-compliant payments.
· Oversee payroll activities, including entering payroll and employee-related data in QuickBooks, managing 403(b) retirement plan accounting, PTO tracking, and reporting balances to staff.
· Serve as backup for payroll processing, including timesheet entry, file submission, and tax payments, and handle monthly payroll accruals.
· Assist with budgeting and grant management by maintaining spreadsheets, tracking expenses, and entering data into QuickBooks.
· Support the Director of Finance in preparing for audits and reconciling investment accounts.
· Provide financial data for grant applications and special reports requested by program managers.
· Help maintain the financial accounting system and monitor grant accounting.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a closely related field, or 2-5 years of relevant experience.
· Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, including fund accounting methods and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) standards.
· Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel, with the ability to extract data and prepare detailed reports.
· Critical thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills.
· Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Salary and Benefits: The hourly pay for this full-time position ranges from $21.65/hour to $26.45/hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan options.
