The second event of Resilient Reeds, a spotlight series featuring the latest environmental writers
When scientists last year released the Fifth National Climate Assessment, poets put together a companion anthology. Hear Virginia’s Poet Laureate and others read their pieces for the East Coast launch of Dear Humans at the Edge of Time.
“As we celebrate the rollout of the Fifth National Climate Assessment, let this inspiring collection be a reminder that there is nothing beyond our capacity if we work together,” says President Joe Biden.
Co-editors Jeremy S. Hoffman and Luisa A. Igloria will be accompanied by local poets also published in the anthology, including Kindra McDonald, Executive Director of the Elizabeth River Trail; Gail Giewont, Lesley Wheeler and Denise Wilcox. Afterward, there will be opportunity for book signings and Q&A with the audience— poets, scientists, “dear humans”— all of us who are working together to weave something extraordinary: hope, despite living on the edge of time.
“…we are tethering at the edge of summer…/if we stay here too
long, we will erode with the mountains…/
The edge is not the end. We still have time to try.”
