NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — At Lambert’s Point, where Norfolk Southern has been operating on 300 acres of land surrounded by the Elizabeth River, it marked the completion Tuesday of a nearly nine-acre living shoreline restoration.
Josh Raglin, the chief sustainability officer with Norfolk Southern, sees the importance of the Elizabeth River.
“The Elizabeth River’s been a part, and the Hampton Roads community has been part of our railroad history going back almost two centuries now,” Raglin said. “So we’ve got several hundred employees that are active in this area. It’s also great for economic development.”
For the past 30 years, Norfolk Southern has partnered with the Elizabeth River Project in building a more resilient shoreline around the waterfront property. The living shoreline restoration project transformed nearly nine acres and 1,500 feet of eroded shoreline.
